INTERVIEW: TIGER WOODS AT TGL - Golf News

Q. Tiger, I’m curious about your routine on TGL days. You’ve spoken in the past about waking up at 3:00 to get ready to play a tournament. What’s your day look like when you set to compete at 7:00 p.m. here?

It’s different. It was a busy morning with some work stuff that I had to do. I got here, probably didn’t exactly do my normal routine, but hey, it’s just the way it goes.

It’s different playing late at night like this. This is definitely different for us as golfers. But hey, it is what it is.

Q. Tiger, you mentioned in your pre-match interview, this is where your mom last saw you play. What do you remember her impressions of TGL’s potential as an avenue to create interest in golf?

Well, I think that she really enjoyed watching me play. It was awesome to have her in the stands and watching us play and having the kids here and family and friends. It was a great moment. I’m definitely appreciative of her being here.

Q. To expand on the emotions, Tiger, coming in, you mentioned on that same interview that it was the last time she saw you play golf. When did that start hitting you? Was that walk in something that was —

I had a hard time driving down here. I hadn’t hit a golf ball since I played with the President and just put everything away and shut it off. I had a really hard time getting here and then reliving all the moments that we’ve had, my mom, how excited she was to have Charlie drive her here. So those are some great moments and great memories.

It’s been a hard process.

Q. Tiger, you mentioned your kids; how cool is it to have them so close up and personal with you on the green?

Well, I think that they enjoy it, seeing their dad play and compete out there, because at a normal event, you’re not going to be that close and not going to have the sights and the sounds that you normally would have at most sporting events. Most sporting events you sit in the stands and you watch the players play. In our sport, the gallery probably walks more than we do.

Q. You spoke Sunday about the need, willingness to play more golf. Would next week be a consideration for you?

I really haven’t thought about golf, so I don’t think I’m going to be thinking about it for just a little bit here.

Q. There’s always a lot of questions simmering around what happens in the beautiful SoFi Center after the season ends. Any ideas floating around? Anything you can reveal? Is that all sort of in the works?

Well, hopefully next year we can expand on what we’ve done this year. We’ve learned a lot, and I think that we’ve brought a great product to the game of golf, and spreading the game in a different way.

I think you see that with the players and the camaraderie and the experience and the joy that they have being with one another. Because we really don’t get a chance to do that in our sport, for us to come together like this and have fun and entertain and support each other, it’s great.

Tiger Woods, in an interview, discussed his routine on The Golf League (TGL) days where he wakes up early to prepare for tournaments. However, when competing in the evening at 7:00 p.m., his routine is different. He mentioned that it was a busy morning with work stuff to do and that playing late at night is unique for golfers.

Woods shared that this TGL event was where his mom last saw him play golf, and he appreciated having her in the stands. He mentioned that it was emotional for him to relive the moments with his mom, especially during the drive to the event, recalling how excited she was to have his son Charlie drive her there.

Having his kids close to him on the green was special for Woods, as they could witness him compete up close in a way that is not possible at regular events. He expressed that it was enjoyable for both him and his children to experience golf in a more personal and intimate setting.

When asked about playing more golf in the future, Woods said he hadn’t thought about it yet and would take some time before considering it. As for the future of TGL at the SoFi Center, he expressed hope to expand on the success of the current year and bring a great product to the game of golf. He emphasized the camaraderie, joy, and support among players in the league, highlighting the unique experience of coming together to have fun and entertain each other.

In conclusion, the interview provided insight into Woods’ emotions surrounding the TGL event, particularly regarding his late mother’s presence and his family’s involvement. It also hinted at the possibility of future participation in golf tournaments and the expansion of TGL to continue spreading the joy of the sport in a different way.
