World No 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler shoved against a police car and detained in handcuffs outside Valhalla

World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler was unexpectedly detained by police outside Valhalla Golf Club, resulting in a dramatic scene that left onlookers stunned. The incident occurred as Scheffler was preparing to compete in an important tournament.

In striking video footage that went viral on social media, Scheffler was captured being escorted into a police car in handcuffs as he attempted to enter the club prior to his second round at the PGA Championship.

‘Can you please help me?’ a panicked Scheffler could be heard asking a nearby reporter in the stunning clip.

He landed in hot water with law enforcement when officers allegedly signaled for him to halt his vehicle. Despite this, Scheffler continued driving while a police officer clung to his car.

The world No 1, 27, was later booked into jail and a mugshot released via the Louisville Department of Corrections. He reportedly faces the following charges, per Wave3:

  • Second-degree assault of a police officer, which is a felony
  • Third-degree criminal mischief
  • Reckless driving
  • Disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic

During the second round of the PGA Championship on Friday, a tragic accident near the club caused a delay in the event.

A pedestrian tragically lost their life after being struck by a shuttle bus near the golf course. Although Scheffler was not part of the incident, he found himself entangled in a substantial traffic jam near Valhalla.

The top-ranked player was scheduled to start his second round at 8:48 AM ET with Wyndham Clark and Brian Harman. This has been rescheduled to 10:08 AM.

As per ESPN, Scheffler attempted to access the course, while media were informed that players could enter while others were denied entry.

IThe officers reportedly had no knowledge of Scheffler’s identity. According to ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington, “A police officer approached me holding a notepad, pen poised…” – “Can you tell me the name of the person we’ve just arrested?”‘

As the golfer was escorted off the premises, Darlington, the individual who captured the incident on camera, endeavored to alert the attention of the officers.. He was warned: ‘Back up or you’re going to jail also!’

‘Right now, he’s going to jail,’ a different officer said. ‘He’s going to jail and there’s nothing you can do about it. Period.’

Confusion arose as Scheffler navigated a traffic cordon after the accident. Valhalla’s entrances were crowded with cop cars on Friday morning.

According to Darlington the situation moved ‘very quickly, very rapidly, very aggressively’. Scheffler was put in a squad car – still in handcuffs – before reportedly being released.

It is alleged that Scheffler was unaware that the individual he was interacting with was a police officer. As reported by Sky Sports, Scheffler was released around 7am local time.

Players were provided with courtesy cars. As reported by ESPN, a player arrived at Valhalla around 5:45 am and tried to navigate through the cordon, similar to Scheffler’s actions.

Upon observing the markings on his vehicle, the officers allowed him to pass without any issue.

Scheffler is currently tied for 12th place after finishing his first round at four-under-par. Following the common practice among players at major championships, the world’s top-ranked player arrived at Valhalla approximately three hours before his tee time.

Players arrive at the course early to enjoy breakfast, engage in a workout session, and complete their warm-up routine before proceeding to the first tee.
